Services
The Miriam Child Development Center |
The Miriam Child Development Center is conveniently located near downtown Memphis and offers transportation if needed. Run for kids by people who love kids, the Center offers a terrific head start for life.
Academic Preparation
More than simply day care, the Miriam Child Development Center is designed to stimulate children’s curiosity and help prepare them academically for the next level. Each room features a theme-based curriculum and lesson plans that incorporate fun and educational activities, including regular field trips to places like the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Memphis Zoo and Dixon Gallery and Gardens. Volunteer tutors help provide special attention in key areas.
Nurturing Environment
The Miriam Child Development Center draws on the resources of all the United Methodist Churches in the Memphis Conference to assist in its mission of supporting, nurturing and educating children. Volunteers read to the kids, teach arts and crafts, wash clothes, rock babies in the infant rooms, and provide support during field trips.
DHS-Approved Facilities
Open 12 months a year from 6 AM to 6 PM, the Miriam Child Development Center offers space for 85 children. Conforming to the regulations of the Department of Human Services, the Center provides a bright and cheerful space designed especially with children in mind — the new playground has already received rave reviews.
Parental Involvement
Thanks to the Center’s Parent Advisory Committee, parents play a key role in helping shape the curriculum and identify needs or growth opportunities. The goal is a true partnership whose ultimate beneficiaries are the children themselves.
