In 2013 UMNC will be having a lunch and learn on Thursdays at 12:00 pm of all SeedCo volunteers. This program will help build community among our volunteers and teach family and community awareness and skills. Schedule and more details to come….
With the new year begins a new program at the UMNC. As part of the training that we offer the SeedCo (Welfare to Work) Volunteers and the community awareness we offer our Shelby County General Sessions Court community service volunteers beginning Thursday January 10th at 12:00 pm we have Lunch and Learn. This program is a round table were the volunteers gather as a group once week.
We share a light snack generally fruits and veggies with tea and coffee and discuss a topic or hear a talk.
The topic discussed focus generally on life skills like cooking, cleaning, budgeting, parenting, etc.. This month our topics included: Cooking with what you have: Rice, Vitamins and Minerals and the Foods they are in., Vinegar for cooking and cleaning, and we will have a special guest of Peter Abell the Exe. Director of Books from Birth of Shelby County to talk about their program.
Since everyone participating in the Lunch and Learn introduces themselves and is encouraged to participate in table discussions it has had a positive impact on our volunteer’s public speaking abilities and also general volunteer moral.
As the year continues we look forward to a wide variety of topics and an interesting line up of guests. Anyone is welcome to come and join the discussion, think of it as a pot luck.
