The Key Women of the United Methodist Neighborhood Centers of Memphis (UMNC) are collecting Thanksgiving baskets again this year. The donation deadline is set for Nov. 21.
The Key Women are a support organization for the UMNC, which is “committed to enhancing the physical and spiritual lives of individuals and families by bring together churches and neighbors to provide child care, spiritual development, social services, and education,” according to its website.
Key Women member and former president Sharon Cornelius says the baskets, which go to families in need, will each feed four to six people. Families also receive $15 Kroger gift cards to help them purchase perishable items.
Those wanting to participate in the Thanksgiving basket drive should pack the following items in laundry baskets or banana boxes:
cranberry jelly sauce (2 cans)
corn (2 cans)
green beans (2 cans)
yams (40 oz. can)
instant potatoes (26 oz. box)
flour (4 lbs.)
sugar (4 lbs.)
cornmeal (4 lbs.)
biscuit mix (40 oz.)
oil (48 oz)
cake mix and icing
coffee (instant) – tea bags (family size) OR instant lemonade
The Key Women also appreciate monetary donations that are used to purchase Kroger gift cards. Baskets and donations may be dropped off at the UMNC building at 3000 Walnut Grove, Memphis, Tenn., or at the Key Women meeting at 10 a.m. on Nov. 19.
This year, Cornelius says, the Key Women hope to deliver 300 baskets.
