United Methodist Neighborhood Centers (UMNC) of Memphis exceeded the $50,000 fundraising goal it set in September. It has now raised more than $80,000 for its work.
UMNC is an agency of the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church that provides services such as early childhood education and programs to alleviate hunger and poverty.
According to a press release, the organization began the $50,000 fundraising drive in response to a financial crisis last summer and adjusted the original goal to $75,000 in October.
Using the theme “New Vision for New Days,” the campaign sent emails and letters explaining UMNC’s need to clergy and lay leadership throughout the Memphis Conference. Various speakers also volunteered to talk to churches about the importance of the organization’s work. Eventually, through tithes, offerings and donations from churches and individuals, UMNC exceeded its goal.
The press release also said UMNC will now take steps to establish a realistic budget for 2015. It is exploring reducing property-related costs and establishing new ministry partnerships.
